Project summary
Specific cross-border objectives of the project were: better management of protected, and ecologically important forests, which are extremely important for the cities of Celje and Rovinj and their inhabitants; furnishing and arranging of forest land and the creation of a suitable environment for education of children about forests, which are based on experiential learning and experiencing nature as an add-school program; revitalization of degraded forest areas in order to maintain the ecological and social functions of urban forests; raising public awareness of natural and cultural assets of forests through education and promotion of this very important public space. Related interests of Rovinj and Celje, knowledge and willpower to change the overall state of the forest, were the main motives for the development of this project. Activities of stakeholders in the field of protection, maintenance and management of forests in accordance with the principles of participatory planning, joint preparation and implementation of education, and development of recreational and artistic content, were significant to the conceptual and practical upgrading of sustainable use of forests, but also to cross-border promotion of urban nature, connecting people and forest ecosystems and motivating of the local participants for participation in future activities in the field of nature protection.
