Project summary

In cooperation with the Croatian museum of tourism in Opatija, we have established a museum collection in the Slovene part of Istria on the development of tourism in the coastal area. The existing collection has been expanded. There was an exchange of the exhibits and the organizing of a visiting exhibition on tourism development in Croatian and Slovene part of Istria. An agreement on a long-term cooperation between the Museum of Tourism in Opatija and the Mediteranum Institute of Piran was signed. We have formed an agreement on a long-term cooperation between the Museum of Tourism in Opatija and the Mediteranum Institute of Piran; 2.1 the formation of bilateral expert groups to look into historical development of (a) gastronomy, (b) accommodation facilities, (c) tour operators’ programs, (d) linguistic aspects of promotions. There has been exchange of teaching staff between the Faculty of Tourism Studies Turistica Portorož and the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management Opatija (visiting lectures). Cooperation has been established between the partners by signing of the agreements on cooperation in the teaching and research field. Istrian tourism museums development potential from different aspects, (the hoteliers, tourist information centers, museums, visitors, local population) was researched. We have the organized professional excursions of Slovene students to the Museum of Tourism in Opatija and of Croatian students to the museum on the Slovene coast; a modern multi-media website – a web-museum was designed with joined effort.

6,000 visitors (tourists) at the exhibition;

158 members of both countries at the round table named “The Development Possibilities of Museum Tourism in Istria”;

12 participants of the excursion from both countries;

676 students from UP FTŠ Turistica and highschoolers on the excursion to Opatija, and students of FMTU Opatija on the excursion to Portorož and Piran;

10 announcements for public;

4 presentations on the conferences.
