SUSTAINABLE NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
PRESERVATION OF PROTECTED AREAS
KAMEN-MOST
Project summary
Project partners have set up a continuous cooperation network based on sharing the know-how and experiences with preservation, protection and promotion of cultural heritage as regards quarries, stonecutting, fortification, and the building technique of stone walls typical for this project area. A sustainable educational network will be set up with several cross-border educational events organized with the purposes of sharing the knowledge of cultural heritage of stone to increase the added value of the stone cutting profession. For the preservation of the know-how we have systematically shared the building techniques, as well as the means of obtaining and processing the stone with the local population and interested public from both sides of the national border. In order to enhance the recognition of the stone cutting profession and this traditional craft existing on both sides of the border, we have developed a common visual image of the project, to organize cross-border events to promote the stone cutting craft, and to set up an exhibition. A greater visibility of the project’s topics and awareness among people was achieved by organizing promotional events and workshops, displays of how to obtain and process the stone, setting up the educational path, and itineraries. Materials resulting from the project activities (publications such as catalogues, brochures, webpage, photo, video and audio materials etc.), which helped to increase the knowledge and awareness among people, and served as sustainable educational and informative tools after the project’s end. The level of interest in traditional techniques of stone cutting and designing, as well as building stone walls among local population and visitors was enhanced by sharing the know-how at practical workshops, by visiting the educational paths, and attending other events. The transfer of knowledge and best practices enabled the tourist operators to add value to the existing tour packages or even to produce new ones to revitalize the offer.
