Project summary

The project Learn and enjoy was carried out from January 2014 until June 2015, on the area of Savinjska and Krapinsko-zagorska region. The farming-foresting center Celje, was the leading partner of the project, together with other partners, such as the Association of the tourist farms of Slovenia, Krapinsko-zagorska region, Tourist association of Krapinsko-zagorska region, and Zagorje development agency. The project activities enabled the connections between the countryside providers, which were motivated and educated for the integration of natural and cultural heritage into their offers, and also the development of innovative touristic products of culinary tourism. The project has contributed to higher awareness of the tourists and the tourist providers in the rural area on the local identity, and the meaning of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage and preservation of the environment. The activities of market communication (promotional prospects, tourist programs on 3 different web pages, study trips for the press, 2 presentations on fairs, the adaptation of the prospect for the Slovenian written media, direct mail to the trip organizers, meetings with the press on the conferences, and numerous newspaper publications) all contributed to the recognisability of the involved regions, and brought the cross-border gastronomic offer to the inhabitants of the cross-border area and broader public. Altogether, 13 workshops and 1 study trip of the farmers and the professionals were organized. Additionally, the analysis of the potential protection of the products was made, as well as the pilot interpretive plan of natural and cultural heritage for a chosen farm. 22 programs of adventures on the farms were made, two of which were be cross border programs. The gastronomic cultural heritage of the preparation of “štruklji” (rolled dumplings) was presented at the event Štrukljijada. A flyer with the name “Let’s protect the nature together” was printed, striving to motivate both the tourists and the providers towards a more responsible treatment of nature and the environment.
