Project summary

Specific objective of the project was research the current production, quality and quantity of cheese, increasing the level of technological and entrepreneurial knowledge in current production, and increasing the future production and export. Furthermore, one of the objectives was establishment Centres of excellence in Karlovac County (KAC) and Southeast Slovenia (SESLO), networking and development of „Road of cheese“ that offer cheese as part of the content of the rural tourism offer. Throughout the project the current cheese producers were promoting their products, a trained group for sensory evaluation of cheese quality in both regions was created and consumers were educated on significance of cheese in nutrition as well as the culture of cheese intake was developed. Through establishing Centres of Excellence, defining and promoting Road of cheese, training in the area of entrepreneurship and technology, the cross-border area was revitalized and networking, it increased mobility and export, competitiveness and the exchange of know-how. Through education of cheese makers and dissemination activities, the level of self-employment was increased as well as the long term cooperation of private and business entities (small cheese dairies – Centres of excellence within higher education institutions). Outputs of the project were: conducted research, conducted analyses of cheese, written bilingual curricula for education in entrepreneurship, conducted enterpreneurship training of technologists, workshops held on enterpreneurship in cheese manufacture, motivational seminars held for cheese manufacturers, business plans made, lectures on cheese held, founded Centre of excellence, study visit of project partners, conducted training of trainers, web page designed, manual on cheese manufacture made, promotional film, identified route of potential Cheese road, press conference, scientific-professional papers published.
