PARENZANA MAGIC

Project summary

Specific cross-borders objectives of the operation were: creation of the touristic destination “Parenzana” by joining the existing offer of natural, cultural and technical heritage, into a joint touristic product for the recognition of the route, as a cultural-recreational destination; preserving the path of the old railroad track in Slovenia and Croatia, and the simultaneous development of additional capacities for the bicycle infrastructure intended for sports and recreation, thus leading to a wider touristic infrastructure development; linking the route’s cultural heritage with the recreational and eno-gastrological contents, for the purpose of creating a recognizable integrated touristic itinerary; route, municipality and city branding, as an integral product for all nature, sports and culture lovers; rising awareness of the local inhabitants and tourists about other forms of mobility; promoting healthier and ecologically cleaner means of transportation, and the possibility of unburdening the road traffic through the use of bicycles and walking; rising awareness about the development potentials, the importance of the route for the rural development, the cultural, historical and environmental value of the route, and the preservation of such a unique cultural and historical legacy. Outputs of the project were: restoration of an old school building in Triban; cycle inn for cyclists and athletes; “Parenzana institution”; common bilingual kinesiology study; training stations with information boards: developed study; vertical signalization; solar collector powered lighting in the tunnel of Motovun; rest stop platforms with information boards; cleaned and restored “Parenzana” section; content upgrade for the museums; visual upgrade for the museums; developed package arrangements; organized events “Parenzana experiences”; study field trip; four-days long course for bike guides; cross-border expert workshops; cross-border workshops on the topic of health; published articles about the content of the project in foreign medias; “Wine Run Parenzana Magic”; cross-border “Parenzana Cycle tour”; presentation on the world fair “Eurobike” in Germany.
