Project summary

Project activities were aimed at achieving the following objectives: establishment of network of bicycle and equestrian trails in cross-border area; digitization of trails – marking of cycling and equestrian routes with GPS coordinates; construction of infrastructure for equestrian activities; development of promotional materials about cycling and equestrian routes and creation of biking maps; replenishment of the existing website content with new tourism offer with emphasis on cycling and equestrian tourism; development of mobile applications for smart phones; specialization of existing tourist guides with new knowledge and specifications of cycling and equestrian tourism in border regions; establishment and training of tourist provider network in cross-border area; raising awareness and education of providers and holders of tourist offer; conducting training workshops for managers and holders of the natural and cultural heritage and for tourism providers; increasing the number of registered providers of cycling and equestrian tourism in border regions; presentation of cycling and equestrian trails at trade fairs in member states of the European union; development of pilot cycling marketing model with detailed cross-border payment system and bike rental options. The added value of cross-border project was the creation of unique pilot cycling marketing model in border regions, which additionally connects physical infrastructure and providers of tourism products and services on both sides of the border. By connecting the tourism providers in the cross-border area, cross-border cooperation strengthens, and intercultural dialogue that connects people on the Croatian and Slovenian side is preserved. Project activities contributed to lasting and sustainable development of the cross-border area based on the optimal use of natural and cultural resources and responsible use of resources. The existing tourist offer, complemented with the new tourist facilities for cycling and equestrian tourism, and untouched rich cultural and natural heritage of target groups were presented by joint appearance on the world tourism market. Through the implementation of project activities the following effects were achieved: equestrian trail and 2 branches; bike trail drawn; equestrian trail and 2 branches marked; 2 websites made and one website upgraded; 20 workshops for members of target groups; promotional materials were designed; performances on 3 fairs organized and performed; 18 rest stops built; smart phone application for trails created; pilot cycling marketing model created.
