Project summary

The general cross-borders objectives of the project were: to promote the long-term natural tourism, built on the cross-border cultural identity and the cultural values, with the aim to expand the tourist season, and to enlarge the income for the local inhabitants, especially in the rural area. Specific cross-borders objectives of the project were: to enrich tourist services of the cross-border region with a new, innovative integral Roma cultural-tourist product; to offer to the members of the Roma ethnic minority indispensable tools of „help for self-help“, to activate endogenous creative potentials of the Roma and the richness of the Roma cultural heritage for their personal development and the development of the Roma collective as a whole; to stimulate the development of Roma social entrepreneurship adjusted to the specifics of Roma lifestyle, Roma culture and values; to establish a cross-border Roma cultural-tourist developmental partnership and a common Roma cultural-tourist-information infrastructure; by using planned media promotion of positive events in the lives of Roma, we have contributed to the elimination of negative stereotypes, and the a prior declining attitude of the major part of the dominant population towards the Roma population, as well as to the acceptance of diversity, the stimulation of tolerance, the prevention of discrimination and multicultural dialogue. The added value of the project is seen in the enrichment of the cultural offer. In this way, the project has significantly helped to activate and optimally commercialize the evident, unidentified human potentials of the cross-borders area.
