Project summary

The specific objective of the project was to create a system for energy-efficient and ecological friendly management of public lighting in the cross-border area, by applying modern lighting technologies, with modern information and telecommunication technologies. The project had initiated the sharing of knowledge and experience between Croatian and Slovenian partners in the field of high technologies regarding street lighting, which was previously nonexistent. The new system reduced the consumption of electrical energy, greenhouse gas emissions, as well as maintenance costs of public lighting infrastructure, and increased energy efficiency and illuminance of the streets. The added value of the project was evident in the development of special GIS application for public lighting, with advanced capabilities for planning future investments and predicting their impact on the environment, ie. on reducing CO2 emissions. Outputs of the project were: 8 meetings of the project team; 5 GIS systems of public lighting with implemented application for calculating the CO2 emissions; 727 LED public lights installed in 5 municipalities; joint collection of recommendations for optimizing the system of public lighting, with proposed legal regulations for the Republic of Croatia; 5 seminars for municipalities on the new GIS system, with a new wireless technology for management of public lighting infrastructure; 8 seminars for the general public; 4 motivational workshops; 2 comics in the local media in Slovenia and Croatia; 1000 leaflets about the project; info-corner; 27 web publications; 2 press conferences.
