Project summary

Specific cross-borders objectives of the operation were: drafting a long term water protection strategy; creating preconditions for the construction of (separate) sewage systems and waste water treatment plants; application of European standards, methods and technologies in sewage and waste water treatment; reducing environmental pollution, pollution of surface and ground waters; affect prevention, education and increase public awareness of local inhabitants, focusing especially on large pollutants explaining the necessity of water protection in whole cross-border area. Added value of the project was: establishment of cross border networks; involvement of local actors in improvement of water protection; joint management plans of water sources; protection of drinking water in sensitive cross border area; integrated policy in waste water management; sharing European standards, methods and technologies in sewage and waste water treatment; joint activities on public awareness of inhabitants and polluters, focusing on environmental protection and water protection; eco-sensibilization; joint development of human resources (education on environmental protection measures); strengthening of local capacity for innovative measures in waste water management, using information technologies; improving quality of life and fostering of natural physical and social environment; development of biodiversity; economic and tourism development; economic and social cohesion; sustainable development. Outputs of the project were the creation of the following documents: the agreement on fostering of water protection and waste water management; joint water protection strategy in cross border area; general project on sewage system and waste water treatment; geotechnical and geodetic elaborates; main and performance project for separate sewage systems and waste water treatment plant; lectures aimed at raising the awareness of inhabitants and polluters on environmental protection and innovative measures of water protection; joint press conferences about the project; joint radio shows; brochures; posters.
