Project summary

Specific cross-borders objectives of the project were: the establishment of the functionality and program of the Scientific educational center (SEC) “Speleo house”, as a center of activities of all institutions and/or societies involved in the karst studies and the protection of natural and environmental sources in the cross-border area; the dissemination of the scientific findings about karst and the quantity and quality status of water resources in the Slovenia/Croatia cross-border area; setting-up an expert basis for the development of a common, more efficient model of water resource management in the cross-border area; increasing public awareness (in groups of local inhabitants of all ages, as well as in other groups interested in karst) of biological and environmental values of karst areas with a goal to increase the quality of life. The project was dealing with natural resources, which are characteristic for both countries and for which there is a strong common interest for protection and sustainable management. Outputs of the project were: the basement of the building SEC “Speleo house” reconstructed; the functionality and program of activities of the Scientific-educational center “Speleo house” in Vodice were reworked; a web site of the SEC “Speleo house” with the possibility of on-line booking and an offer of use any of three predefined packages; 2 educational paths of different complexity and content; promotional material for the “Speleo house”; a bilingual study with detailed scientific researches of the study area for the preparation of the guidelines for monitoring of karst waters; a scientific monograph; 20 minutes long trilingual documentary film; a presentation, workshops and events about karst and the protection of karst waters.
